Donate, and Thrivent will double the impact
Through the 2018 Nicaragua WASH Project, Thrivent has committed to matching each dollar raised up to $50,000. Working together, we can provide these families the opportunity to live a healthier life.
Universal access to sanitation is essential to reducing diseases, improving nutrition, safety, wellness, and educational opportunities.
Thirty-nine percent of the population in Nicaragua live in poverty. Between 2006 and 2015, access to improved sanitation barely improved from 61% to 68%.
Nicaragua is the second poorest country in Latin America. In 2015, approximately three out of 10 people did not have access to clean, safe water and sanitation. This means they use a variety of unhealthy contaminating alternatives.
Since 2011, Habitat for Humanity Nicaragua has completed sanitation and clean water projects serving 382 families in the municipality of San Rafael del Sur. These families’ incomes are equal to or less than the minimum salary in Nicaragua, which is around $200 USD monthly.
Habitat for Humanity in partnership with Thrivent Financial, is increasing the impact in Nicaraguan communities by improving the sanitation condition of 60 families, approximately 300 people in the community of Gutiérrez Norte through the 2018 Nicaragua WASH project.
The project includes the installation of 60 sanitary units, or “Eco-Toilets,” each consisting of a shower, a toilet and a laundry area.
