About Me

I am so thankful to be able to volunteer on these builds with Habitat- but what makes it possible is the generous support from friends, family, and co-workers. I would not be able to go and do the work without you! Every donation, whether it's $5 or $500, makes it possible to provide decent and safe housing for these families.

Your donation to this build isn't funding a " working vacation to a cool place", it's funding the opportunity to change the lives of people in areas of the world that don't experience the volunteerism and outreach that we see here in the US. Your support means so much more than building a house, it means building a home.

The funds raised will provide building materials and logistics during the build- and not my personal travel expenses!  A portion of the money is also an automatic donation to HFH Romania.  AND in most instances your donation is tax-deductible!

This year's project will be continuing the work on four quadraplexes that HFH Cumpana Romania is building. Each unit will house four families. Two have already been completed, and two were started this past summer.

Even though Romania is part of the EU, 5.5 million Romanians live in extremely poor conditions, including more than 2 million children, and over 42% of the population have no bathroom facilities with access to running water. Over 58% are struggling with overcrowded living conditions, and many houses are made with improper materials, or are in advanced stages of degradation, and are not equipped with basic utilities. Two-thirds of Romania's people in rural areas live in the poorest conditions, and in the cities many live in cramped apartments. Much of Romania's housing stock is low quality and deteriorating because of a lack of maintenance. More than 10,000 blocks of flats were constructed 40-50 years ago and now need serious renovation to their infrastructure, heating systems, and roofs.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
